Sharon May recently traveled to Tyler County with Judge David W. Hummel, Jr., to get a look at the Tyler County courthouse and the court room where Judge Hummel holds circuit court.

May has spent the past 25 years as Division 11 secretary for circuit court working out of the Marshall County Courthouse in Moundsville.

“I started my career working for John Madden in 1976 as his private practice secretary. In 1990, when he became Judge Madden, I went to work at the courthouse,” she said.

Judge Hummel, replaced Judge Madden in 2009 and May has been working with him ever since.

May, who lives in Glendale with her husband Daniel, recently announced she would retire effective July 25. A retirement party was held in her honor on June 18, at her office in the Marshall County Courthouse.

May said she has enjoyed her time as division 11 secretary and it is the little things like this trip with Judge Hummel, that has helped to make her career a more memorable one.

“The one thing I plan on doing is to spend time with my only grandchild 10 month-old Bodie, the love of my life,” she said.
