BOE Members Discuss Expulsion
The Wetzel County Board of Education met behind closed doors several times during their meeting on Monday, May 4, as they took up both personnel and student matters.
The board first met behind closed doors for a lengthy student expulsion hearing. The board then went into an executive session. Upon return to open hearing, the board voted to uphold Interim Superintendent Jay Yeager’s recommendations to expel “Student/Case (A) through the end of the 2014-2015 school year.”
The board then went into executive session for approximately half an hour to discuss a separate student matter.
Finally, just prior to the conclusion of the board’s regular meeting, they went into an approximate 20 minute executive session to discuss personnel matters. In open session, the board voted to approve the settlement of a pending litigation.
Interim Superintendent Yeager stated that the matter “was a settlement between the board attorney and the attorney of an employee. The terms of that settlement are to private. It was for both parties.”
Yeager noted that the employee is actually no longer employed at Wetzel County Schools.
