The board agreed to purchase and install new lockers from Davis Athletics, LLC, located at 2325 Liberty Street, Parkersburg, at Hundred High School, Long Drain School, Magnolia High School, New Martinsville School, Paden City High School, and Valley High School for a price of $297,200. Also, the approved an increase of approximately $8,000 for a graffiti repellent.
Also, the board approved the Transportation Ballot, which was voted on by all regular school bus operators by secret ballot on Jan. 23, which stated the following: “Midday extracurricular (shuttle) school bus runs will continue to be assigned by seniority on a rotating basis, which has been past practice. Midday extracurricular (shuttle) school bus assignments will continue to be posted each school year by attendance area.”
The final vote was 21 bus operators for continuing the past practice as stated above and seven bus operators voting against the past practice. A two-thirds majority vote is needed according to West Virginia State Code 18A-4-16(5) and was obtained (75 percent).
Interim Superintendent Jay Yeager noted that the ballot was on the agenda so that there was a record of the vote. The actual matter was passed by vote several years ago, but the board had no record of it. “This is just to clean up a legal matter, so that it is on the record,” he said.
