Parade Highlights Saturday’s Events

By Staff | Dec 3, 2014

“Twas the Night Before Christmas” is the theme for this year’s Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade. The parade will be held downtown New Martinsville on Saturday at 6 p.m.

The Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce there will be a Christmas Tree lighting in the New Martinsville City Hall’s courtyard following the parade. The tree will feature ornaments made by the children of the area and will be lit for the entire season.

The children may come to Occasions Florist & Gifts between 9 a.m. and noon to make their own ornaments to be placed on the tree. The supplies for the ornament decorating will be provided free. Families are encouraged to attend the tree lighting ceremony following the parade so the children can hang their decorations. This event is free. Check the chamber’s website for more holiday activities taking place on Dec. 6; www.wetzelcountychamber.com.

Anybody who would like to volunteer to help with the festivities is encouraged to call Brian Feldmeier, 304-771-4754, or Jane Ann Gamble, 304-771-6221.

Santa will be visiting with children following the parade at the tree lighting location: corner of Main and Washington. Hot chocolate and cookies will be available.

Also, during the parade, the Chamber is beginning a new tradition: each year there will be elves alongside of Santa to collect new toys, CDs, etc., so bring along an unwrapped gift. Those toys will be given to children in need through a pre-selected charitable organization. This year they will be distributed by a local Boy Scouts Troop.
