Chamber Expands Christmas Activities

By Staff | Nov 19, 2014

Santa Claus is coming to New Martinsville for the Christmas Parade Dec. 6.

The Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce there will be a Christmas Tree lighting in the New Martinsville City building’s courtyard following the Christmas Parade on Dec. 6. The tree will feature ornaments made by the children of the area and will be lit for the entire season.

The children may make their own ornaments to be placed on the tree or come to Occasions Florist & Gifts that morning and make an ornament. All ornaments made by the children in the community will be hung on the Christmas tree during the lighting that evening. This event is free.

Also, during the parade, the Chamber is beginning a new tradition, each year there will be elves alongside of Santa to collect new toys, CD’s, etc., so bring along an unwrapped gift. Those toys will be given to children in need through a pre-selected charitable organization. This year they will be distributed by a local Boy Scouts Troop. For more information call 304-455-3825.

The theme for the Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade is Twas the Night Before Christmas. Registration forms and rules are available at the Chamber office located at 201 Main St, New Martinsville, or online at www.wetzelcountychamber.com. Call 304-455-3825 for more details.

A package decorating contest is underway at the chamber. Packages are needed to complete the chamber float this year. To enter, decorate an empty package (box) and drop off at the Chamber office Dec. 1-3. Packages will be judged. Winner will receive a $25 Walmart Gift Card. For more information call 304-455-3825.

Parade route businesses are asked to decorate their front window for the holiday and enter into a contest for best decorated holiday window. Judging will be completed by Dec. 6 and the winner announced at the Christmas Parade. Winner receives limited time Chamber website advertisement. If you wish to participate call the Chamber Office at 304-455-3825.
