Tim Hooper from the West Virginia Treasurer’s Office paid a visit to the Wetzel County Commission Oct. 9 to distribute $1,084 in unclaimed funds to the county. The funds dated back to 1997 and 2006.

Treasurer John D. Perdue has served as the custodian for unclaimed property, as designated by state law, for 716,561 unclaimed property accounts that total more than $152 million in unclaimed funds. He has returned more than $100 million to West Virginia businesses and individuals.

“Our treasurer is concerned about the public and has their best interests at heart,” stated Commissioner Don Mason of the returned funds.

Also on hand Oct. 9 was State Senator Larry Edgell (D-WV) who has served on various finance committees within the state senate.
