A Record Setting Weekend

By Staff | Oct 1, 2014

At least 12 new records were established during the New Martinsville Records Challenge and Regatta over the weekend.

Referee Sherron Winer of Powerboat Superleague reports that in addition to the records, one new National Champion in the tunnels boats was crowned, Rob Rinker of Tampa, Fla., and three divisional champions, Jeff Krischano of Elk River, Minn. (F3), Mark Proffitt of Jacksboro, Tenn. F2-200, and Lee Daniel of North Augusta, S.C. (F2-120). A full wrap-up of the boating action will be in next week’s Wetzel Chronicle.

In addition to the expected boating action, they managed to get in 15 minutes of vintage racing including an appearance by the Barracuda-a boat memorialized in an old photo at Quinet’s Court Restaurant.

The entire event was reported to be a success-providing fun and entertainment for the entire community. “This committee runs like a very well oiled machine,” noted Winer of the group that works to put on the regatta in New Martinsville.
