By Staff | Sep 24, 2014

Two of four workers injured at the Natrium plant Friday remain hospitalized.

Axiall Corp. spokesman Tony Ventry said two employees were treated and released from the hospital and the scene, respectively, while two others were admitted and remained hospitalized.

The employees were performing a maintenance operation at the facility when they were accidentally exposed to a caustic soda solution. Two victims were flown to West Penn Burn Center in Pittsburgh via helicopter. The third patient was taken to Wetzel County Hospital via ambulance, and the fourth person was treated on site.

“The injuries sustained by the two employees who remain hospitalized in Pittsburgh are believed to be non-life-threatening. A thorough investigation is underway, with the goals of understanding all of the factors contributing to the occurrence of this unfortunate accident and identifying possible ways to prevent a future occurrence,” he said.
