PG Councilman Resigns

By Staff | Sep 10, 2014

After a brief executive session at Monday evening’s Pine Grove Council meeting, council approved the resignation of Council Member Dave Williams. Any resident of Pine Grove interested in filling this vacancy is required to make their intentions known by Sept. 15, noon.

Council read and accepted the minutes from two special meetings, held July 31 and Aug. 5, when they read and accepted ordinances allowing Dominion’s right-of-way for sewage access.

Also at Monday’s meeting, council provided Jerry Martin with an update concerning the waterline removal at his father’s residence. Mayor Roy Justice reported to Jerry that the project should be done, hopefully, within the next month.

In another matter, Justice reported that additional work is needed on the town’s garbage truck. He stated that the truck was “torn up” at the landfill. A mechanic from Monroe Towing believes the problem with the truck is an issue with the air pump. The driver of the truck was able to drive the truck back to Pine Grove, which cut out towing costs. However, Justice reported that it will most likely cost $600 to $700 to fix the truck.

As for street department issues, Recorder Kimberly Bates reported that she had placed a phone call concerning defective street lights and it would be seven to 10 days to get repairs made.

Bates also reported that she would be making a call to Swiss Valley Associates the next day regarding an electric issue with a grinder pump at the park’s restrooms. As of Monday night, it was believed that the restrooms at the park were still out of order.

Furthermore it was reported that the fire department would be conducting hydrant flushes soon, most likely on Sept. 27 and Sept. 28.
