Stokes Looks To Make Album

By Staff | Aug 6, 2014

Kevin Stokes got his start playing guitar and singing almost nine years ago at Baristas Cafe and Pub when he was still in high school.

Since then, he’s received a degree in music from Alderson Broaddus University, toured the country performing with a group of students, and secured a full-time gig playing professionally with the American Mountain Theater in Elkins, W.Va.

From those very first performances, Stokes has dreamed of recording his own album featuring a full band as his songs originally intended.

“The Ohio Valley has a long legacy of great musicianship,” he says. “I’ve always wanted to add to that tradition.”

As plans for the album began to form, Stokes turned to his friends and former classmates for support. The project has evolved into a creative collaboration to support Stokes and the young artists and musicians involved, as well as the new student-run studio at Alderson Broaddus University.

The project is being funded through an online platform called Kickstarter, where individuals can donate funds in exchange for a piece of the finished project. Stokes is hoping to reach his goal of $6,000 by midnight, Aug. 31.

Kevin remarks, “This project has the potential to benefit so many of the people involved, the artists, the studio at ABand funding projects like this supports independent music and arts and encourages creative young people to pursue their dreams.”
