Large Load Brings Down Utility Pole

By Staff | Jul 9, 2014

Just before 1 p.m. Monday a truck transporting an Arrow portable concrete plant down Gravel Lane in New Martinsville caught a cable wire and broke a utility pole, causing some outages for local residents and businesses. New Martinsville Police Chief Tim Cecil said the load was 13-feet, six-inches tall, two feet lower than the limit. In fact, a similar load had previously gone down the lane without an problems. He said the matter is still under investigation.

Relatedly, it was noted at Monday night’s council meeting that the portable concrete plant is just going to the New Martinsville Arrow site for storage. It will not be operated there. (Photo provided)
