Wetzel County children engaged in food and fun with their families on June 14 as the very first Wetzel County Community Picnic was held, thanks to a joint effort by the Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office and Wetzel County Coalition Against Drug Abuse.

Kids had an opportunity to tour various first responder equipment, including the Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter, New Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department trucks, and the Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office cruiser. Kids also had an opportunity to participate in face-painting, inflatable rides, and archery,

Three children won ATV helmets from Country Roads Ford: Faith Yoho, Joslyn Magruder, and William Morgan.

Terry Lockhart was the winner of the boy’s bicycle and helmet from Wal-Mart, and Bailey Slie was the lucky winner of the girl’s bicycle and helmet from Wal-Mart.

Organizers were very pleased with the event and turnout. They believe it might become an annual activity to help keep kids active and away from drugs.
