Ride Will Benefit PG Park
Pine Grove Town Council Member Randy Street reported to council Monday night that an ATV benefit ride has been scheduled for July 20, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Pine Grove Byrd Center. Street stated the ride will benefit the park committee; he added that the Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office said they would be participating.
Furthermore, Street gave Town Recorder Kimberly Bates $1,885 for the park committee’s account, stating that the funds were from a gun raffle that was held recently. Street reported that some replacement park equipment was scheduled to be delivered the week of June 23. He stated that volunteers are needed to help install the swings and small play area when they arrive.
Mayor Roy Justice stated that the council had been receiving some complaints from citizens after it was announced that they could no longer park on the tennis court. “The tennis court is made for human beings and not vehicles,” Justice noted. “It’s just going to be an extra expense for the town. We didn’t do it for an inconvenience. We did it because it needed to be done.”
Plans for Pine Grove’s Fourth of July festivities are also in full swing. The event, set for July 3 beginning at 6 p.m., will include Gary Partridge and his band, Wrestlemania, and fireworks to cap off the fun. The council is hoping to have the fence around the Byrd Center, along with the staging area, freshly painted before the festivities.
In another matter, the council passed the second reading of the ordinance for town licenses. The first reading was held in February. Mayor Justice noted that there was a “little” increase in fees.
Finally, residents of Pine Grove are encouraged to call Recorder Bates if they would like their swimming pools filled for the summer. Bates stated that she has a rate chart for charges.
