Golf Course, Pool Open In NM Parks
The paid attractions within New Martinsville’s parks opened over the weekend-including the newly renovated miniature golf course at Bruce Park.
The course opened Saturday with a special tournament to benefit Relay for Life, hosted by the Wetzel Chronicle and Tyler Star News teams. About 80 rounds of golf were played during the tournament and no doubt more enjoyed the course since.
Also opening were the pool and paddle boats at Lewis Wetzel Park.
“It went wonderfully well,” said Gibb of the kickoff over the weekend. “I’ve had a lot of help. It’s been a huge effort by a lot of people.”
For the remainder of the week, the pool and paddle boats are open from 4-7 p.m. Then once Wetzel County Schools are out for the summer, after Friday, the hours will be noon to 7 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays, and 1-7 p.m., Sundays. After Friday the paddle boats will remain open until 8 p.m. The miniature golf course is open from 4-8 p.m. through this Friday. Beginning Saturday the course’s hours will be 2-10 p.m., Mondays through Fridays; noon to 10 p.m., Saturdays; and 1-9 p.m., Sundays. All hours are dependent upon the weather. The price is $3 per person for each of the three attractions.
Gibb noted that there are still some finishing touches to be done at the miniature golf course, including putting some more stone in the water feature.
As for very busy basketball court at Bruce Park, Gibb said they will soon get the lines painted on the court that was resurfaced last year. Also, she said that while she tries to keep mets on the hoops, they seem to disappear nearly as fast as she can replace them. She has tried various nets and ideas, but has found it is best to buy the cheapest nets possible and replace them as necessary.
