Cecil, Willey, Pallisco, Shepherd Win NM Races
The only contested races on Wetzel County’s Primary Ballot were on the New Martinsville municipal ballot.
The closest race ended up being that for the city’s Chief of Police position. With the final precinct’s count incumbent Tim Cecil came out the victor with 676 votes to Michael Thomas’ 608.
A race also existed for the city’s street commissioner position. Again the incumbent kept his position as Gary J. Willey garnered 801 votes compared to Jeff Montgomery’s 424.
The race for the Fourth Ward council seat was somewhat close with incumbent Steve Pallisco edging out Linda K. Barth, a former First Ward representative by a vote of 149 to 123.
Political newcomer Jeremy M. Shepherd received 72 votes to Holly Grandstaff’s 29 for the First Ward council seat-the one vacated at the beginning of 2013 by Barth when she moved to a residence in the Fourth Ward.
The other council seat races, uncontested, were incumbent Kathryn “Kay” Goddard in the Second Ward, 161 votes; and Jeff Wright, 144 votes, in the Third Ward. Longtime City Recorder Bonnie “Schied” Shannon was also unopposed for her job and received 1,016 votes of confidence.
