Hundred’s Old Fashioned Christmas will be held Friday, Dec. 13, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and will be held in downtown Hundred. Everyone is invited to enjoy the evening!

The festivities begin with a tree lighting at 6 p.m. at the intersection near the post office. The parade will then begin at 6:30 p.m. After the parade Santa will meet with children on the new bridge to hear their Christmas wishes! Children are then invited to visit the senior citizens building for free cookies provided by the Green Machine 4-H club. Sign a ribbon with the name of a lost loved one to tie on the memorial trees at the intersection.

Experience a live nativity scene and horse drawn wagon rides. The Oak Street Carolers will be strolling the area providing festive music. Be sure to stop in the post office to write and mail a letter to Santa. Businesses will be staying open late and offering special deals. Awards will be given to the “Most Beautifully Decorated Home” as well as “Most Festive Store Window”. There will be many vendors and activities set up including free popcorn and books provided by the Hundred Library. There will also be Christmas cards for soldiers, ornament making, make your own s’mores, and so much more!

A reminder to drivers in Hundred that evening, please remember to drive slowly and keep alert for pedestrians.

Pine Grove will host its Christmas parade this Sunday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m.

Those who are interested in being a part of Pine Grove’s Christmas parade are encouraged to call the Byrd Center, 304-889-3351, or Shortline Florist, 304-386-4308.

The parade route will begin at the Church of Christ. A party after the parade will be held at the Byrd Center, where Santa Claus is expected to make an appearance.

In other Christmastime news, judging for the town’s Christmas light contest is expected to take place Dec. 20 and Dec. 21. Also, children interested in participating in the town’s coloring contest need to pick up coloring sheets at Simon’s Market or the Byrd Center as soon as possible, as the contest ends Dec. 15. The contest includes the three following age categories: one to three, four to six, and seven to 10. A prize will be awarded to one boy and one girl in each category.

In other town news, four more rebuilt controllers will be bought for the sewer plant. Mayor Roy Justice stated four had already been bought and used, and the town was in need of four more.

Also, as to building and maintenance issues, Justice stated that Valley Plumbing had repaired any drains and sinks that needed fixed at the Byrd Center.

As to street issues, council was informed that pot holes had been repaired and cinders had been bought in anticipation of winter weather. Councilmember Bonnie Martin also noted she would have pole numbers of broken street lights turned into Recorder Kimmy Bates.

Council was informed that the town’s dump truck had new tires put on it, as well as snow plow lights.
