Water Project Progresses

By Staff | Nov 27, 2013

Rick Healy, assistant director of Management Services and Housing Rehab Specialist for Belomar Regional Council, approached Wetzel County Commissioners Tuesday morning to request that the commissioners approve a drawdown of funds for Public Service District One’s water tank and water line project, specifically $1,724.08 for inspection services and administrative costs of $2,687.08.

Healy stated that both contracts had started, with two-thirds of the site preparation and access completed and one-half of the tank foundation complete.

He said the line extension had been started on Eight Mile, with 10,000 feet of pipe having been installed thus far. Workers were off this week because of the holiday, but will begin work again next week.

With available funding left, the Public Service District voted to extend the waterline project to include Piney Run.

Unfortunately, Healy stated the residents of the area were not signing up, as two prior times residents were let down because funding had not allowed for the waterline extension. However, Healy emphasized the waterline extension would take place this time, as the funding is already in place to cover the work. Healy stated that residents should sign up now so that taps can be installed as the water line is laid.

This is better for the residents as it will cost less. A later signup would cost more after construction passes homes and line is already laid.

Healy encourages those in the Piney Run area that are wanting more information or to sign up for water to contact PSD One Manager Keith Nelson at the PSD Office at 304-386-4870.
