Longwell Charged With Child Abuse

Wilson Scott Longwell, 22, of RD 1 Box 204, New Martinsville, is facing a possible prison sentence of one to five years after being charged with felony child abuse.

The case, investigated by the New Martinsville Police Department, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Wetzel County Magistrate Court, before Magistrate Thomas Shepherd on Dec. 2.

According to the magistrate report, a complaint of abuse lead to the home of Longwell. Sergeant Don Larsen of the NMPD, along with Jennifer Wetzel of the Department of Health and Human Services, Child Protective Services, both visited Longwell’s residence. A four-year-old child, under the supervision of Longwell, was found with bruises on both sides of the child’s face and chin. Bruises were also observed on the child’s bottom, arms, back, sides and legs.

The report also stated that Dr. Rex D. Lasure observed the marks as to be classic signs of intentional striking injuries. Bond, as recommended by Wetzel County Prosecuting Attorney Timothy Haught, has been set as $50,000 cash.
