Hundred Town Council voted unanimously to appoint Dave Derby to the vacant seat on the governing body and to hire Matt Sine to the town’s part-time maintenance position.

The decisions were made after an eight-minute executive session, citing the discussion of personnel matters.

The town had a few applicants for the maintenance position and one other candidate for the council seat-Randy Bartrug.

Maintenance Supervisor Terrell Greathouse noted that garbage customers in the town who normally have their trash collected on Fridays, will not have services Nov. 29. Instead, those customers will have their garbage picked up on Dec. 3.

Council also unanimously passed the first reading of an amendment to the town’s dog leash ordinance, in particular Section 8: “Keep dogs and other animals so as to become a nuisance-barking dog.”

It reads, “No dog or other animal or fowl shall be kept in such a place or condition as to become a nuisance either because of noise, odor, contagious disease, or other reasons. First offense: $25 fine will be imposed plus court cost. Second offense: $50 fine will be imposed plus court cost.”

The change requires three readings and it will be published in the legal section of the Wetzel Chronicle between the second and third reading.

Finally, councilman Keith Williams brought up the recent installation of a loading zone sign downtown. He said a city worker was harassed while installing it. “In the future, law enforcement should be contacted immediately,” said Williams. “I don’t think he should have to put up with harassment, from anybody really.”

In one final note, council set their annual Christmas dinner for Dec. 16. Since this is usually a council meeting, the only council meeting in December will be Dec. 2 at 7 p.m., barring any unforeseen changes.
