West Virginia Chief Wastewater Operator of the Year Gary Young

New Martinsville Wastewater Operator Gary Young has been named the West Virginia Chief Wastewater Operator of the Year. City council recognized Young for his accomplishment at their meeting Monday evening.

This is actually the second time Young has received the honor and he is the only person to be a repeat recipient. He also received the award in 2003.

The accolade was given Sept. 10 at the West Virginia Rural Water Association’s 28th annual Training and Technical Conference Banquet held Sept. 10 at Snowshoe Mountain Resort.

Young, a Class IV certified wastewater treatment plant operator, has been employed by the city for over 38 years. He is described by his peers as an extremely hard worker who leads by example. He was selected for the award for operators who represent 300 West Virginia Rural Water Association member systems in each of the state’s 55 counties.

Each year, during the annual WVRWA banquet, systems and personnel are recognized for outstanding achievements in serving customers. Over 700 attended this year’s West Virginia Rural Water Association Conference that included 24 continuing education training sessions for water and wastewater operators and administrators.
