Board Approves Personnel And Other Matters
The following personnel and routine matters were approved at the Oct. 21 meeting of the Wetzel County Board of Education. Board member Linda Kirk abstained from voting on personnel matters.
Retirements:
Donna J. Myers, acceptance of retirement from position as custodian at Short Line School, effective the end of the day on Dec. 31.
Resignations:
Mark D. Blair, acceptance of resignation from position as winter evening events coordinator at Magnolia High School, effective immediately.
Brittany D. Jackson, acceptance of resignation from position as assistant cheerleading coach at MHS, effective immediately.
Jeremy B. Kelch, acceptance of resignation from position as head baseball coach at Hundred High School, effective Oct 4.
Toby L. Willis, acceptance of resignation from position as seventh grade boys’ basketball coach at Paden City High School, effective immediately.

Leave of Absence:
Approval of request from Michelle K. Bradley for an ‘unpaid maternity leave of absence’ from her position as mathematics teacher at VHS beginning upon depletion of her personal leave and permissive personal leave days, on or about Nov. 14 through six weeks postpartum.

Request to Use School Facilities:
Approval of request from Jessica Stine, principal, for International Sports Specialists, Inc. to use the gymnasium at Valley High School for a Pro Wrestling Event on Nov. 16.
Bus Request:
Approval of request from Alex Holehouse, Area Young Life Director, for a bus and bus operator to transport students and counselors to Jackson’s Mill on the evening of Nov. 22, and for a bus and bus operator to transport the students and counselors back from Jackson’s Mill on Nov. 24, funded through Young Life.
Early Dismissal:
Approval of the following exception, per provisions of State Board Policy 2444.01 and Wetzel County Policy IKF, and on the recommendation of the principal, for Laura Hayes, a student at Valley High School, to attend school first through fourth periods on a daily basis for the remaining of the 2013-2014 school year, taking the required classes to accumulate sufficient credits to meet graduation requirements.
Out of State Trip:
Approval of request from Olivia Gump, first grade teacher at LDS, to take the first grade class from LDS to the spring house in Washington, Pa., for a field trip to a pumpkin farm on Oct. 31. Funded through class funds.
