Jim Colvin, president of the Wetzel County Ambulance Authority, appeared before the Wetzel County Commission Aug. 26 with two quotes for land surveying duties that will need to be completed to acquire a new satellite station for Wetzel County EMS in Hundred. The commissioners agreed that Paul Harbert, of McCoy Land Surveying, was the best choice for the job.

Colvin later clarified the details of the new satellite station with the Chronicle by phone.

Colvin stated that the county’s current ambulance station in Hundred is housed with the Hundred Volunteer Fire Department in a building owned by the city of Hundred. Colvin said this particular building is in desperate need of repairs. “Both Hundred VFD and Wetzel EMS began searching for another site to move to,” stated Colvin. The VFD has purchased some property just east and across the main street from the current station. They intend to build a new fire department on that site eventually.

Colvin stated that Wetzel County EMS had placed an ad in the Wetzel Chronicle earlier in the spring to search for land in the Hundred area. “We didn’t receive any bids, so we contacted the Wetzel County Commission to see if they had any land in the Hundred area that they would lease to us.” Colvin stated that with the commission’s help, Wetzel County EMS contacted the people who run the Burton Health Clinic about the possibility of placing an office trailer on the property at Burton Clinic that the county commission owns.

Colvin said after the survey is completed, the landmarks used from the survey will be used to refer to in the lease agreement that the Wetzel County EMS will be signing with the commission.
