Wetzel County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Koontz was able to provide some information regarding a helicopter crash in the Arches Fork are Monday afternoon.

“The helicopter was trimming power-line right-of-ways,” Koontz stated. He added that the pilot of the helicopter, who suffered only minor injuries, seemed to believe an engine problem, a mechanical failure, was the cause of the crash. Koontz said the Federal Aviation Administration was contacted and will be conduct an investigation.

The Wetzel County Sheriff’s Department, as well as the Folsom Fire Department both responded to the crash. The pilot was released from Wetzel County Hospital Monday evening.

The sheriff’s department has notably been busy lately, specifically responding to three accidents Sunday afternoon. Chief Deputy Koontz stated that there was a motorcycle accident on state Route 7; a vehicle rollover in Porter’s Falls, as well as an accident on Route 69, Hundred, where a truck rolled into the house.

Koontz had limited information on the accidents, though was able to offer some information on the Hundred-area accident. Koontz said the incident involved a subject driving a 2003 Chevy company truck. He said the subject was diabetic and his sugar dropped. “As a result he ran off the road,” said Koontz, who added that only minor injuries were sustained. However, the accident caused some “pretty significant damage” to the house.
