Relay For Life Will Be Held At 4-H Grounds

In a nearly last-minute scramble to find a new location, Relay for Life of Wetzel County will take place at the Wetzel County’s 4-H Grounds this weekend.
The event was to be held at Magnolia High School’s track, as always, but the track is currently undergoing a resurfacing project and will not be ready for foot traffic in time. Wetzel County Commissioners approved use of the 4-H grounds on Tuesday morning. That approval included use of the Town and Country Days office for counting of money; they also approved the use of the “new pole building,” in case of inclement weather. Lori McCoy of Wetzel County Relay for Life also requested that fire pit devices by the track be used for the event, the commissioners agreed.
Set-up and registration will begin at 4 p.m., with the opening ceremonies slated for 6 p.m. Relay for Life starts at dusk and ends at the next day’s morning. The light and darkness of the day and night parallel the physical effects, emotion, and mental state of a cancer patient while undergoing treatment.
Teams participate in the relay, but those without a team are also invited to attend, walk the course, remember and honor those who cancer has touched, and participate in the various fund raisers at the event.
It’s also a good place to eat dinner as food and beverage items such as pepperoni rolls, french fries, hot dogs, watermelon, baked goods, popcorn, nachos and cheese, homemade ice cream, slushies, meatball hoagies, sausage hoagies, walking tacos, lemonade, pop, water, and coffee will be for sale.
Games and other attractions include: face painting, photo booth, jail, duck pond, and ring toss.
