Valedictorian John Bates

Paden City High School’s Class of 2013 was led by Valedictorian John Bates. Their salutatorian was Drew Bidwell.

Bates is the son of Rose Bates of Smithfield and the grandson of Nancy Shewmake of Smithfield.

John is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta and was PCHS student body president. He participated in basketball and football during his high school career. He attended the West Virginia Governor’s Honor Academy at West Virginia University.

John is the recipient of the Promise Scholarship, the Tad Fitzsimmons Scholarship, and the Paden City Foundation Class of 1961 Scholarship. Next school year he will attend WVU where he will major in biology.

Bidwell is the son of Timothy and Lisa Bidwell of Paden City. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. He received letters in basketball, football, baseball, golf, and track.

Drew is a recipient of the Promise Scholarship, the Michael Ingram

Scholarship, the Paden City Foundation Alumni Association Award, and American Legion Award. He plans to attend West Liberty University in the fall and major in Business.
