Katherine Plas Valedictorian

The River High School Class of 2013 held its graduation ceremony on Friday, 7 p.m., at Flannery Field.

The Valedictorian of the Class of 2013 is Katherine Plas. She is the daughter of Greg and Twila Plas of Hannibal. Katherine is president of the National Honor Society, editor of yearbook, and Presidential Petroleum Engineering. Katherine attends the Zion United Church of Christ in Sardis.

The Vocational Valedictorian is Joshua West. He is the son of Jeremy and Penny West. He is a member of the Vocational Honor Society.

Alex Thomas served as the Salutatorian for the Class of 2013. He is the son of William and Shelia Thomas of Hannibal. He is member of the National Honor Society, a three-year Academic Achiever, and a delegate of Buckeye Boys State. He is a member of the Hannibal United Methodist Church of Hannibal. Alex plans to attend The Ohio State University and major in Computer Engineering.

Lauren Price, the daughter of Tim and Rhonda Price of Fly, offered the invocation. She is a four-year Kiwanis Scholar, Academic Achiever, and an international scholarship winner from the Oklahoma International Bluegrass Festival and Monroe Mandolin Camp. Lauren is a member of the Church of Christ of Pine Street Church of Christ in New Martinsville. Lauren plans to attend Davis and Elkins College.

Joshua West Vocational Valedictorian

Leanna Price, also the daughter of Tim and Rhonda Price of Fly, delivered the welcome. She is a four-year Kiwanis Scholar, Academic Achiever, and an international scholarship winner from the Oklahoma International Bluegrass Festival and Monroe Mandolin Camp. Leanna is a member of the Church of Christ of Pine Street Church of Christ in New Martinsville. Lauren plans to attend Davis and Elkins College.

Annelise Turner introduced the special guests at River’s graduation ceremony. She is the daughter of Jim and Julia Turner of Clarington. Annelise is a Pioneer Valley Conference Scholar Athlete, OVAC Scholar Athlete, a member of the National Honor Society, and has received various top of the class awards. She attends the Duffy Church of Christ. Annelise plans to attend Ohio University and major in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Cassidy McCullough, daughter of Mike and Raychelle McCullough of Hannibal, provided the benediction. She is a member of the National Honor Society, a four-year honor student, a four-year Pioneer Valley Conference Scholar, and an All Ohioan District III State Champion in track. She is a member of the St. John Bosco of Sardis. Cassidy plans to attend West Virginia Wesleyan and major in Chemistry.

Since McCullough was qualifying for the state track meet, her benediction was pre-recorded. It was introduced by honor student Myla Smith.

She is a daughter of Bob and Faye Smith of Hannibal. She is a National Honor society member and both PVC and OVAC Scholar Athlete.

Alex Thomas Salutatorian

Honor Student and Class President Evan Eggleston, son of Joe and Amy Eggleston, led the class in the turning of the tassels.

Carl Edward Trifonoff, principal of River High School, presented the class. Board member Ron Winkler, Superintendent Larry Elliott, Assistant Superintendent Neil Ritchie, and Treasurer Lance Erlwine awarded diplomas.
