The Wetzel County Coalition Against Drug Abuse has made their Rx Drug Drop-off Box available to the public. The public does not need to wait for the DEA-sponsored Rx Drug Take Back Days to get rid of unused and unwanted prescription medications.

A permanent Rx drug drop-off box is located in the New Martinsville Police Department. The public is told to just bring unwanted medications to the dispatcher, and he or she will dispose of them in the safe and secure (under video surveillance) drop-off box, no questions asked.

New Martinsville Policeman Donnie Harris states that the Rx Drug Drop-off Box is a “great thing.” Wetzel County Substance Abuse Prevention Program Coordinator Brandi Murray agrees, “It’s a necessity to our county considering we had such a large turnout at the last Prescription Drug Takeback Day.

There is also no reason to have privacy concerns either, as Murray states that the prescriptions do get incinerated after they are picked up by the DEA. If one still has worries though, Murray said they can remove the labels or black-out the label with a marker.

Please do not bring any sharps, lancets, needles, glass, liquids, or inhalants.
