Commission Hears Website Proposal

DeAnn Cummings of White Caps Creative Group appeared before the Wetzel County Commission Feb. 27 to discuss the future implementation of the commission’s website.
Cummings submitted the Online Business Implementation proposal to the commission and discussed both what the commission would want to accomplish with a website as well as solutions of the website. The commission chose to have both wetzelcountycommission.com and wetzelcc.com as web addresses for the site.
Cummings then discussed the three phases of building the website. Phase One of the website’s implementation consists of the basic website and the design, including adding any particular colors the commission likes to include.
The second phase, Cummings referred to as the “guts” of the website. This includes search engine implementation, main menus and sub navigation menus, buttons down the left-hand side or the top of the website. Cummings said this would include a Facebook or Twitter set-up, staff directory, event calendar, contact-us forms, photo gallery, as well as an expansion to the 15-20 other departments of the county. Cummings stated she had set aside one-and-a-half hours to meet with each department of the county.
She described Phase Three as “bringing it all together” and also opened discussion for out-of-scope items such as custom web apps. Cummings used a hypothetical example of an application on the tax department’s page that would figure out users’ taxes for them.
Phase One will cost the county $8,000, which includes 40 hours of development and creation. “That should be enough for us to get most of this done,” Cummings stated.
Phase Two includes meeting with the department heads and getting their information; this cost is $6,000, and Phase Three includes a monthly fee of $240 to “make the website run.” It includes White Creative Group’s updates. If the county is able to find someone to maintain the website for them, the cost will drop to about $140. This includes the yearly url price of $12 for each of the web addresses the county chose: wetzelcc.com and wetzelcountycommission.com.
Cummings explained that phase one will take approximately 40 hours to develop and create. She said the the building of the web site itself takes about 6-8 weeks, whereas the 40 hours is set aside for “content creation.” This 40 hours is also spread across several weeks.
The county commission anticipates signing the contract with White Cap Creative Group of Sardis at their March 13 meetingto about $140. This includes the yearly url price of $12 for each of the web addresses the county chose: wetzelcc.com and wetzelcountycommission.com.
