For the third consecutive month, Pine Grove City Council did not have a regular monthly meeting for lack of a quorum. However, it should be noted that an emergency meeting was in fact held Dec. 28, in which Mayor Dave Barr resigned. At this meeting, Council Member Brian Price was voted in as the new mayor.

Recorder Kimberly Bates, Councilwoman Eva Adams, and Mayor Price were all present Monday night for what was to be Pine Grove City Council’s first regular meeting since October. However, no other council members showed up.

Concerned citizen Dee Cain had shown up at the meeting to express his concerns over the current conditions and appearance of Pine Grove, especially its roads. Further concern was shown by Cain over the lack of a city council present for its monthly meeting, which is to be held the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m.

Non-partisan elections for Pine Grove mayor, recorder, and councilman will actually be held June 11. Filing fee is $5 for mayor, $5 for recorder, and $5 for councilman. The deadline for signing up for one of these offices is March 31, 2:30 p.m. Any interested persons should file a certificate of announcement with the recorder of Pine Grove declaring himself or herself a candidate.

Despite the lack of a quorum available to make any sort of decisions, those present did want to express their thanks and appreciation to the group of people who helped with the city’s decorations for the holidays. Thanks were expressed to Kristi and Helen Earley, Weldon Williams, Eva Adams, Patty and Denny McCardle, VHS students, Mid-Ohio Valley Technical Institute students who made the Christmas lights, Daryl and Taylor Bates for helping to decorate, Pine Grove Library who offered the gathering, Pine Grove city workers, and the tree, which was donated in Cory Scott’s memory. “Thanks to everyone that helped,” Bates stated.
