In Wetzel County Circuit Court on Friday, defendant Jason Andrew Young, 30, of 71 West Benjamin Drive, New Martinsville, pleaded guilty to count one of his case, conspiracy to deliver oxycodone.

For this offense, Young has been sentenced to one to five years of confinement in the West Virginia State Penitentiary for Men. Young has been given credit for 71 days already served. This sentence is to be served concurrently with a sentence Young received in Tyler County. Young has also been ordered to pay a fine of $210.95.

Per the terms of the plea agreement, the state agreed to dismiss the second count in the case, delivery of oxycodone. The state also agreed to dismiss the charges in another case, which charged Young with 12 counts of uttering.

When asked if he believed the resolution was in the best interests of his client, Defense Attorney F.M. Dean Rohrig responded that he did, especially with the dismissal of Young’s other charges.

Also during Friday’s session of Wetzel County Circuit Court, Tony Eugene Cook, 37, no address given, pleaded guilty to his charges of third-offense domestic battery and violation of a restraining order.

For count one, third-offense domestic battery, Cook was sentenced to one to five years in the West Virginia Penitentiary for Men. For count two, violation of a restraining order, Cook was sentenced to one year in the Northern Regional Jail. Cook was given credit for time served, 68 days. These two sentences are to run concurrently.

Cook was given a furlough to get his affairs in order, but he was to report to the sheriff’s office on Tuesday at noon.

Cook confessed to both offenses, stating, as to count one, “I head-butted her.”

As to count two, Cook confessed, “I was on the porch hollering at her.”

Cook does believe alcohol contributed to his crimes and requested alcohol counseling. He was ordered to have no direct or indirect contact with the victim.

Half of an agreement as been reached in the case involving Jonathan Owens, 28, of HC 68, Box 530, Gunlock, Ky. However, there are other matters that need to be sorted out; therefore, a return date has been set for Dec. 17, noon.

Owens has been charged with possession of a controlled narcotic substance (Xanax) with intent to deliver and misdemeanor driving under the influence.

Both offenses are to have occurred on or about July 22. Owens was allegedly driving a Ford pickup on Fourth Avenue (state Route 2) in Paden City, while he had an alcohol concentration in his blood of more than 0.15.

He also allegedly possessed Xanax with the intent to deliver.

In another matter, plea negotiations are still ongoing in the case of David Shawn Christen, 29, of 1887 North State Route 2, Apt. D101. Therefore, a return date has been set for Dec. 21, 10 a.m.

On Oct. 19, the court entered an innocent plea to Christian’s charge of delivery of oxycodone, which allegedly occurred March 26.
