Water Project Begins

By Staff | Sep 12, 2012

A crew begins work on North Street in New Martinsville where the New Martinsville Water and Sewer Department is installing 2,800 feet of 12-inch water line, replacing four fire hydrants, and reconnecting all branch and service lines on North Street.

Work began Monday and will take three or four months to finish. They will be working 10 hours a day, Monday through Thursday. The water will not be turned off unless there is an emergency. The contractor will be shutting down one block at a time, starting at the intersection of North and Ohio streets, and finish at the intersection of Pine and North streets (bottom of Doolin). They ask the public to use caution and use alternate routes.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact Patrick Durant Superintendent or Paula Gump at 304-455-9110.

Also, at Monday evening’s council meeting Durant said he still hasn’t heard anything from the contractor about a project in Brooklyn. At this point, he hopes that project won’t begin until spring so as to avoid the harsh winter weather.
