The following routine matters met approval at Monday night’s Wetzel County Board of Education meeting:

Approval was given in regards to the request made by Angelle Copeland and Bruce Ensinger to take the seventh and eighth grade band and choir students at New Martinsville School to Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh, Pa., on May 19. This trip was funded through[TABULATED_DATA] student fees.

Approval was also given to David Kimble to take Magnolia High School TSA chapter members to the TSA National Conference in Nashville, Tenn., on June 21-24 of this summer. This trip will be funded through vocational funds and student fees. Applicable students include Alanna Fox, Joanna Graham, Brent Horner, Dillon Huggins, Logan Massey, Amanda Mayo, Julianne McIlvain, Eric Piekarski, Cole Seckman, and Stephen White.

Elizabeth Al-Janaby was granted approval in regards to her children, Saleh Gabriel Al-Janaby and Zayd Ishmael Al-Janaby being released from Wetzel County Schools to attend Tyler County Schools for the 2012-2013 school year.

Cathy Boggs was also given approval for her son, Jake Boggs, to be released from Wetzel County Schools (Paden City Elementary) to continue attending Tyler County Schools.

Rev. Gail W. Carson was given approval for her son, Philip M. Carson, to be released from Wetzel County Schools (Long Drain School), and instead, attend school in Marion County beginning with the 2012-2013 school year.

Approval was also given to John and Karen Hoyes for their daughter, Katie Anne Hoyes, to be released from Wetzel County Schools (Paden City High School) to attend Tyler County Schools for the 2012-2013 school year.

Lori I. Ice was also given approval for her son, Charles Christian Ice, to be released from Wetzel County Schools (Magnolia High School) to attend Tyler County Schools for the 2012-2013 school year.

In other matters, the revised school calendar for the 2012-2013 school year met the board’s approval. Wetzel County Schools will begin their school year one week after Mid-Ohio Valley Technical Institute begins classes.

The first reading of the revised “GBEE” and “JFB” technology/internet policies for employees and students also met the board’s approval.

Superintendent Watt stated that the main difference will be the requirement of cybersafety instruction.

The board’s next regular meeting will be held on June 4, with a retirees reception, at 6:30 p.m. The next regular meeting will be on June 18 at 7 p.m.
