NMPD Warns Of Recent Break-Ins At Businesses

By Staff | Mar 28, 2012

Several business in New Martinsville have experienced nighttime break-ins in the last two weeks.

New Martinsville Police Chief Tim Cecil said RC Video, Blue’s Side Car, Pasco’s Pizza, Lowther’s Laundromat, The Feed Store, and the pop machine at Wayside Furniture have all been the objects of the crimes. The most recent one was Blue’s Side Car through the night Sunday/Monday.

Cecil said video evidence has shown the perpetrator to be a male approximately five feet, six inches tall to five feet, 10 inches tall. He has a stocky build, but no other distinguishing characteristics can be told as he is wearing a pillowcase or towel over his head during the crimes. He is taking cash and beer from the businesses he is entering by prying doors open.

One other important detail Cecil shared is that the videos show he may be wearing a bullet-proof vest.

“So we don’t know if he’s carrying (a weapon) or it’s just for his safety,” noted the chief.

At any rate, he cautions area residents not to approach the perpetrator, but to call the NMPD at 304-455-9100 if they witness any criminal or suspicious activity.

That is the same number to call if you have any information that might help lead the NMPD to an arrest in the case.
