Fire heavily damaged a mobile home in the Lockhaven Trailer Court, 100 North Bridge Street, Lot #28, New Martinsville, Monday morning.

Wetzel County 911 received a report of the mobile home fire at 11:23 a.m. and when firefighters arrived on the scene, eight minutes later, there was heavy smoke coming from the trailer. Firefighters were quickly able to extinguish the flames and confine the majority of the blaze to the kitchen of the mobile home.

The fire was declared under control at 11:44 a.m. and firefighters remained on scene until 12:49 p.m.

The mobile home was formerly owned and occupied by William Schrader who passed away April 19, 2010. Executors to the estate were present at the scene and were informed of the initial findings and the damages that had occurred.

According to NMVFD Fire Chief Larry Couch, the fire appeared to have begun in the kitchen of the trailer and gutted that area of the home, while the remainder of the home had heavy heat and smoke damage. Damages were estimated at more than $10,000 to the trailer and $5,000 to the contents. There were no injuries.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

New Martinsville Volunteer Firefighters were assisted at the scene by the Paden City Volunteer Fire Company; New Martinsville Police, Water, and Electric Departments; as well as Wetzel County EMS.
