Board Approves Personnel, Other Matters

The Wetzel County Board of Education approved several personnel matters during their March 19 meeting. The following changes in assignment and employment of county educators and staff are detailed alphabetically by school.

New Martinsville School

Chad W. West (non-certified) was approved for employment as Head Seventh and Eighth Grade Girls’ Basketball Coach at NMS, effective the beginning of the 2012-2013 WVSSAC Season.

Nathan K. West was approved for employment as Head Seventh Grade Boys’ Basketball Coach at NMS, effective the beginning of the 2012-2013 WVSSAC Season.

Paden City High School

Bruce D. Crawford (non-certified) was approved for employment as Assistant Girls’ Basketball Coach at PCHS, effective the beginning of the 2012-2013 WVSSAC Season.

Lorne K. Sine (non-certified) was approved for employment as Head Girls’ Basketball Coach at PCHS, effective the beginning of the 2012-2013 WVSSAC Season.

Short Line School

A request from Sheila J. Tedrow to extend her unpaid Medical Leave of Absence from her position as Half-time Custodian at SLS which began Aug. 19, 2011, through March 14, 2012, to extend through June 14, 2012, was approved.

Countywide

Robert J. Greathouse was approved for employment as Countywide Substitute Custodian, effective March 20.

Lisa D. Mace was approved for employment as Countywide Substitute Custodian, effective March 20.

A request from Daniel R. Westfall for an unpaid Medical Leave of Absence from his position as Bus Operator-Slim Chance/ Maple Avenue/Villas bus route, Bus No. 32, beginning March 19, 2012, through the end of the 2011-2012 school year, was approved.

The board also approved routine matters that included out-of-state trip approvals, requests for students to attend and/or be released from Wetzel County Schools, and an addition to the chaperone/volunteer list for the school year.

Regarding out-of-state trips, the board approved a request from Jim West, head baseball coach at Valley High School, to take the VHS Baseball Team to Myrtle Beach, S.C., over Spring Break (April 2-6) to participate in a baseball tournament. This trip is funded through the VHS Baseball Team.

In other matters, John M. and Sara J. Long’s request for their son, Anthony Beckett, to continue attending Short Line School for the 2012-2013 school year was approved, pending release from Tyler County Schools. Additionally, their request for their daughter, Helena Long, to attend the Wetzel County Center for Children and Families for the 2012-2013 school year was also approved, similarly pending release from Tyler County Schools.

Meanwhile, the board approved a request from Brittany Smith for her son, Aiden Smith, to be released from the Wetzel County Center for Children and Families for the 2012-2013 school year to attend school in Tyler County.

Lastly, Andrea Sell was approved as a chaperone/volunteer for Valley High School for the 2011-2012 school year.
