Board Approves Matters
The following routine matters were approved by the Wetzel County Board of Education during their meeting held Feb. 6. They include requests for students to attend Wetzel County Schools, out-of-state trips, and calendar adjustments.
The board approved a request from Amanda Anderson for her daughter, Isabella Serenity Anderson, to attend the Wetzel County Center for Children and Families for the 2012-2013 school year, pending release from Tyler County Schools.
Marla Clayton’s request for her children, Cooper Clayton and Riley Leek, to continue attending Short Line School for the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year, was also approved.
In another matter the board approved a request from Marsha Stackpole at SLS to attend an Orton-Gillingham Multi-Sensory Education Training in San Francisco, Calif., on March 5-9. This trip is funded through the Title I Program and the Special Education Department. Stackpole is going in place of Jade Spencer who was approved to attend this meeting at the Jan. 17 board meeting.
Lastly, upon the superintendent’s recommendation, the board approved a calendar adjustment for the second semester of the 2011-2012 school year to allow for two two-hour early dismissals for students to allow for the enhancement of Professional Learning Communities (PLC’s) at the school level.
A two-hour early dismissal is set for Feb. 24 and March 16.
