Police continue to search for a man who robbed a local gaming establishment in broad daylight Dec. 20.

New Martinsville Police Chief Tim Cecil said they’ve identified the subject as Christopher Nelson, a Parkersburg man who travels the area. Nelson was identified after viewing surveillance video from Gumby’s Cigarette World, where the robbery took place.

Chief Cecil stated Nelson was playing on poker machines from 11:30 a.m. to around 3 p.m., when he took a $26 winning ticket to the cashier. Upon opening the cash drawer, Nelson allegedly pushed the cashier away and took roughly $250 cash and ran. The clerk then chased after the thief, managing to rip off Nelson’s wrist watch. Chief Cecil added authorities haven’t caught him yet, but hope to have him in custody soon.

Furthermore, it was reported a woman inside Gumby’s at the time was taken to the hospital after suffering chest pains. It is said she is out of the hospital and doing fine.
