An accident on state Route 2 in Paden City tied up traffic for nearly five hours Nov. 16, as emergency crews worked feverishly to clear the debris from the roadway.

At approximately 4:50 a.m., the Paden City Police Department received a call regarding a traffic accident on the road near Jarvis Funeral Home.

According to reports, Johnothan McCutchun was traveling northbound on state Route 2 in his Jeep Liberty, when his vehicle left the roadway, striking a parked Ford Ranger in the driver’s side. McCutchun’s vehicle continued northbound, striking a telephone pole, causing the pole to fall to the ground. The vehicle continued through the pole, swerving to the left, and crossing the center line into the opposite side of the highway before striking and breaking a second telephone pole.

McCutchun’s vehicle continued through the second telephone pole and came to rest against Jarvis Funeral Home.

Although early information indicated there was a fatality, no major injuries were reported as a result of the accident. McCutchun was transported to Wetzel County Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and was later released.

The Paden City Police Department was assisted on the scene by Paden City Fire Company, Paden City Municipal Crew, New Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department, Sistersville Fire Department, West Virginia Division of Highways, Wetzel County EMS, and Mon Power.

The accident remains under investigation by the Paden City Police Department.
