Board Approves Several Items

The following routine matters were approved by the Wetzel County Board of Education during their meeting held Nov. 7. Matters include students’ attendance to Wetzel County Schools, out of state trips, chaperones, and other standard items.

The board approved a request from Joseph and Heather Carroll for their daughter, Kourtney Carroll, to attend Paden City High School for the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year, pending release from Tyler County Schools.

They also approved Jennifer McKinney’s request for her children, Dexton McKinney and Lila McKinney, to attend New Martinsville School for the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year, pending release from Marshall County Schools.

Cheryl D. Myers’ request was also approved for her daughter, Cheyenne Autumn Myers, to continue attending Hundred High School for the 2011-2012 school year, pending release from Marion County Schools.

The board approved a request from Lamanda Rodriguez for her daughters, Maria Rodriguez and Alyssa Rodriguez, to continue attending Paden City Elementary School for the 2011-2012 school year, pending release from Tyler County Schools.

Regarding out of state trips, the board approved Richard Duffield’s request to take the Valley High School senior class to Pigeon Forge, Tenn., for their “Class Trip” May 13-15, 2012. This trip is funded through fund raisers and student fees.

Deanna Myers, director of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction (Pre K-6) and Title I, was approved to attend the National 2012 Title I Conference in Seattle, Wash., Jan. 21-25, 2012. This is funded through Title I.

In other matters, the board accepted the superintendent’s request for contribution toward the salary of a Crossing Guard in the Paden City area. This amount is commiserate with the board’s contribution to a Crossing Guard in the New Martinsville area at $1,250.

Also, per the superintendent’s request, the board approved a three-hour early dismissal for students on Dec. 7 to provide a block of time for staff to analyze benchmark tests and to adjust student instruction.

Lastly, the board approved Jeffrey White as a chaperone/volunteer for Paden City Elementary School for the 2011-2012 school year.
