Commission Accepts Courthouse Step Bid

By Staff | Apr 13, 2011

New steps will soon be constructed outside the Wetzel County Courthouse on Main Street in New Martinsville.

County commissioners opened bids Tuesday for the replacement of the steps, located on the north side of the courthouse between the courthouse and commission office.

Benchmark Construction and Excavation of Sardis submitted the only bid for the work, and their price is $23,800.

Commissioners had anticipated the project would cost the county about $25,000.

Swiss Valley Associates Engineering and Construction Management of Hannibal will assist Benchmark in doing the needed concrete work.

The steps are presently roped off and closed to foot traffic, commissioners said.

Work is expected to be completed by June 30.

This is the date by which an external power washing of the courthouse also is to be completed.

The next meeting of the Wetzel County Commission is set for 10 a.m. April 19.
