Travel Bureau Receives Funding

By Staff | Mar 30, 2011

The Wetzel County Convention and Visitors Bureau (WCCVB) is pleased to announce it has been awarded a Matching Advertising Partnership Program (MAPP) Grant from the State of West Virginia. The Department of Tourism awards the grant for advertising to promote Wetzel County as a tourist destination.

For the first time ever, the WCCVB has placed a full-page ad for Wetzel County in the Northern Panhandle section of the 2011 Official State Travel Guide. The grant includes funding for a month-long slide show in the West Virginia Wild and Wonderful Newsletter. Five images of Wetzel County will be featured during the month of July. WCCVB will conduct surveys and gather data from visitors in order to evaluate the effectiveness of these ads.

The eTravel Guide is an online version of the printed guide and attracts three million visitors annually to its website. The printed Travel Guide has a guaranteed annual distribution of half a million copies, mainly through travel centers and trade shows. A free copy of the 2011 guide is available online at www.wvtoursim.com‘>www.wvtoursim.com‘>www.wvtoursim.com‘>www.wvtoursim.com.

The MAPP Grant for $6,633 covers 75 percent of the advertising cost for these ads.

WCCVB partnered with the Wetzel County Commission and the Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce to cover the remaining cost.

WCCVB has an open meeting on the third Monday of every month. The meetings are held at 8:30 a.m. in the conference room at West Virginia Northern Community College, 141 Main St., New Martinsville. WCCVB encourages countywide participation at these meetings.
