County Awards Roofing Project

By Staff | Jan 12, 2011

The Wetzel County Commission met this week to open bids for the project to repair the roof over the county assessor’s office. With only one bid proposal received, the commission approved Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal, Inc. of Wheeling to complete the project at the approved cost of $57,800. Kalkreuth estimated the project to be completed by June.

The commission also discussed receiving a letter from Secretary of Transportation and Commissioner of Highways Paul Mattox Jr. regarding the New Martinsville bridge on Main Street. During its last inspection the bridge was reported to have some minor deficiencies. With that in mind, the county commission then approached the state and requested funding for the needed repairs. In his response Mattox wrote that presently there is no funding available for repairs to the bridge. However, Mattox added that a weight limit sign was not necessary for the bridge at this time.

In another bridge matter, the replacement of Four Mile Bridge along with grading and paving is in its beginning stages. Traffic will be maintained on the existing bridge until the new one is in place. The contract was awarded to Ohio-West Virginia Excavating Co., Powhatan Pt., at a cost of $839,177.25.
