By Rick Loy - Staff Writer | Feb 11, 2026

The Wetzel County Commission held their regular monthly meeting Tuesday morning February 3rd at the Wetzel County Commission Building with all commissioners present. President Carla McBee declared a forum and called the meeting to order.

Drew Eberle CAD Designer of Swiss Valley Associates was present to open bids for a new roof replacement on the East Wetzel Community Center (formerly the Hundred Legion) in Hundred. The building is owned by the county, who has contracted with Swiss Valley Associates to handle the project for the commission. Bids were received and opened from AM Roofing Systems (Allen Miller) of Dundee, Ohio at $55,000. Kalkreuth Roofing, of Wheeling submitted a bid of $95,500. Lee Reger Builds placed a bid of $66,280. Maxium Construction, of Cannonsburg, PA entered a bid of $74,500, and Ventross (VT) Contracting, of Fairmont, WV bid $87,000. The commission decided to allow Swiss Valley Associates to review the bids before approving and awarding the project to the selected company.

The minutes of the January 27, 2026, meeting was given unanimous approval by the commission.

County Clerk, Jessica Yoho said she had submitted the proposed change order and request to the state to change and combine polling precincts for the 2026 Primary and General Elections due to the previous polling places not being available. The change will now eliminate Precinct 15 and voting will take place at the career center, Precinct 16, and Precinct 18. The new polling location for Precinct 45 that voted at the Grandview/Doolin PSD will now be at the Grandview Fire Department.

Concerning the SIRN radio project, the commission approved funding their share of the project. What started out as a $500,000 cost for the system, which will bring radio coverage to the entire county, later turned into $750,000 when OEM Director Steve Yoho said more Aviat links for the new radio system were needed for the bandwidth. The original cost of $500,000 was to be shared equally by the county and the BOE. With the additional $250,000 added it now puts the cost to the commission at $500,000 with the BOE paying $250,000 as originally agreed to.

Commissioner Kelly Nelsen said, “This will still be awesome for Wetzel County citizens as there will be radio coverage available now in the outer portions of the county for first responders, school buses, and even DOH.”

Jessica Yoho, Wetzel County Clerk asked the commission to appoint her, her two bookkeepers, and Bengy Swanson, Commission Project Manager as the only administrators for the County P-Cards to save the county from possible fraudulent transactions. Yoho said that there are too many administrators as of now and makes it hard to track. The commission agreed and passed a motion to approve Yoho’s request. There is a $1,000 monthly limit on the P-Cards for Deputies and a $5,000 limit for the E-911 Director.

The request from the Wetzel County Animal Shelter employees to have their vaccinations paid for by the county for Tetanus and Rabies vaccines was approved by the commission and will be proactive.
