Preliminary work on the overpass bridge replacement project along the 4-lane in New Martinsville has begun with new traffic lanes for vehicles going North and South and coming from or going into Ohio. These changes will eliminate the necessity to travel further south or north while the project is ongoing. Those vehicles exiting the bridge from Ohio will be controlled by a traffic light at the bottom of the bridge exit ramp. The light will allow traffic wishing to go north when exiting the bridge access to the north bound lane.

North bound traffic will also be controlled by an additional traffic light. Those traveling in the north bound lanes who wish to travel to Ohio will have a left turning lane to access the bridge, however, they will have to wait until the south bound flow of traffic allows a safe crossing of flowing traffic. Caution should be observed by both south bound traffic and north bound traffic.

These changes will require local traffic to be cautious throughout the area at busy times of the day. Extra caution should be observed in the mornings when the New Martinsville school traffic restricts travel in this area..

The removal of the overpass bridge will begin in the near future, and replacement of the new structure will then begin.
