A patriotic Jeep is featured during the Fourth of July parade in Hundred.

The community of Hundred may not be the biggest in the county, but when it comes to celebration of our nation’s birthday, they put on a huge party. This year they made themselves proud.

Town coordinator, Haddie Massie explained that it’s a big job and takes all year to put it together. From the music lineups, the vendors, the fireworks, the games and the annual parade, the town celebration of our independence is a huge undertaking. She went on to explain that it is important for the community to celebrate America’s birthday, and put together a celebration that brings families together and former community members back home to share in the event. Haddie spoke of visitors from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Tennessee and Ohio who returned to take part in the event.

The celebration kicked off at noon with the annual parade featuring over seventy units including shiny fire trucks, law enforcement, classic cars, floats, emergency vehicles, queens and princesses, and state and local politicians.

Mayor Chip Goff got things started following the parade with opening remarks and a big welcome to all. He spoke about how the town continues to work hard to provide a clean, safe place for residents and thanked everyone you joined in to make Hundred a better place.

Vendors were set up near town hall and throughout the area, selling arts and crafts. Food vendors and organizations provided a variety of food to satisfy everyone’s taste.

A day full of music was on tap for all to enjoy on the town stage. Music filled the air from early afternoon to dark. The day capped off its celebration with a dazzling display of fireworks that had young and old lined up for the viewing.

A lot of planning and hard work goes into arranging a celebration like Hundred’s and the community pride was on display from the start to finish. Hundred is already planning next year’s event in hopes of making it bigger and better for all to enjoy. They invite everyone to join them next year as they celebrate the country’s 250th birthday.
