In the aftermath of deadly flash flooding in Ohio County on June 15 at least two victims’ bodies have been recovered near the Ohio River’s Hannibal Locks And Dam, which is about 40 miles south from the hardest hit areas.

The force and speed of the water that rushed out of Wheeling Creek knocked down houses and swept away vehicles and people. To date, eight people in total have died because of the flooding. Officials estimate between 2 and 4 inches of rain fell in a short time, about 30 minutes, causing the creek to turn into a raging river.

The water was flowing so fast that it also carried the bodies of two victims downstream out of the creeks and into the river quickly. The bodies of Connie Veronis, 71, of Moundsville, and Michael Bokanovich, 73, of Triadelphia, were found near the Hannibal dam, said Ohio County Chief Deputy Kent Lewis.

Other victims of the flood include Connie Veronis’ husband, Michael Veronis, 74, of Moundsville; Lisa McMasters, 59, of Triadelphia; Kyleigh Minch Shotton, 26, and her 3-year-old daughter Parker Shotton, both of Triadelphia; Travis Creighton, 19, of Triadelphia; and Jesse Pearson, 43, of Triadelphia.

As of this writing the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department is still searching for at least one person reported as missing – Sandra Kay Parsons, 83, of Triadelphia.
