Fishing Around Town

By Staff | Jun 4, 2025

Fishing at the Hydro Dam.

The water is still cool and while passing through the dam mixes oxygen into the water. This combination brings a variety of fish into the churning waters below the dam which are closely followed by local fisherman. The warm weather has made it one of the local favorites for young and old . It is estimated that up to 250 fishermen were trying their luck at the dam during the week leading up to and including Memorial Day.

Jason Stoneking with Broken Timbers outdoor hunting and fishing from Hannibal, Ohio and Cody Stepanek Assistant Park Director of New Martinsviille spent time with some folks from the Sistersville Nursing Home this past week fishing at the pond at Lewis/ Wetzel Park.

Some show up around 6 am while others come by near dawn and fish into the night hours. No matter what time of day you go by the dam there is always someone there with a line in the water. Other good spots in town include the creek along Harlan drive where it’s not unusual to see several fishermen lining the banks.

So if you enjoy the sport pack your gear and lunch and head to one of the community’s great locations for fun and relaxation. No better way to spend time with family and friends.
