Wetzel Board of Education Approves Personnel For 2025-26 School Year

Board President Linda Fonner called the regular meeting of the Wetzel Board of Education to order on Tuesday, April 29, at 6 p.m. All members of the board were present for the meeting.

First up in the evening was Mr. McPherson’s review of the 2025-2026 school year calendar. He presented the board with two options for the year’s arrangement of school schedules. The board opted for option one.

Also the board gave approval to continue the implementation of Non-Traditional Instruction Days (Remote Learning Days) to be utilized on days when students do not receive instruction within the school facilities due to cancellation of schools. The motion to approve was made by Christine Nice, seconded by Christine Mitchell and approved by the full board.

The board on a motion by Brian Castilow and seconded by Nice gave unanimous approval of the Superintendent’s recommendations, including the minutes of the statutory and regular meeting held on April 15, 2025.

DISCUSSION FOR POTENTIAL PURCHASE OF PROPERTY: Superintendent Porter stated that she is awaiting further information from the gas company as to whether the gas line on the McDiffitt property will be moved. Thrasher is reviewing the property. Items will be placed on the next meeting’s agenda.

The board also took notice of an honorable achievement by Mr. Bill Bell, Teacher at Paden City High School. He has received the James Madison Congressional Fellowship and will be working this summer in the office of Congressman Moore’s organization. Bell has also received the Social Studies Distinguished Teacher of the Year. He has also been recognized by the National Society of High School Scholar and recognized as educator of Distinction. Full board gave Mr. Bell a well-deserved recognition of his achievements.
