A local library is asking its patrons to contact their federal representatives about the importance of not cutting funding for public libraries.

In a social media post, the New Martinsville Public Library said that “libraries need your voice.”

“There’s been a lot of uncertainty around federal funding lately, and while we don’t have clear answers yet, one thing is certain — West Virginia libraries matter,” the library notes.

“Libraries are the heart of our communities, offering free access to books, technology, programs, and so much more. To keep providing these vital services, we need continued federal support.

“You can help by asking our Representatives to sign the Dear Appropriator letter in support of federal library funding for FY2026 — specifically for Library Services and Technology Act and Innovative Approaches to Literacy.”

The library provided legislator’s numbers so people can call and voice their support for federal funding: U.S. Rep. Riley Moore, R-W.Va., at 202-225-2711 and U.S. Rep. Carol Miller, R-W.Va., at 202-225-3452.

“Thank you for always showing up for West Virginia libraries, especially us here at the New Martinsville Public Library. Your support truly makes a difference,” the library added.
