Cpl. Dan Jackson, Sgt. Dave Howell, Chief Deputy Rob Hayes, Sheriff Eric Daugherty, Chief Deputy Don Bordenkircher and Cpl. Mike Owens.
Wetzel County Sheriff Eric Daugherty takes great pleasure in announcing recent promotions within his department. Daugherty is the 40th law enforcement officer to head up the department in its 177 year history. These promotions continue the long history of protection and security for Wetzel County.
The department currently has 19 sworn officers. Promotions are necessary as officers retire or change positions. Officers who accept the advancement challenge have promotion scores that makes them eligible. Years of service and evaluation score by senior officers are all needed to be eligible for advancement.
Recently, Daugherty, who has 26 years’ service, announced a promotion for Chief Deputy, Rob Hayes. He has 32 years with the department. Chief Deputy Don Bordenkircher who has 19 years with the department has received promotional advancement. Sgt. Dave Howell, with 30 years of service received promotion advancement. Sgt. Jordan Swanberg, with nine years within the department also received department advancement. Cpl. Mike Owens with 17 years with the department earned a promotion. Cpl. Dan Jackson, four years of service, also received a promotion. All totaled, the experience for these promoted officers is 137 years.
Daugherty and his department receives very little credit for the difficult job they have chosen to undertake. Each officer realizes that on any given day they could be called upon to protect and serve and possibly place their own welfare on the line.
